The Web Developer must support strategic digital communications across the University of Rochester by building , testing , refining , and maintaining critical University-wide websites, templates , newsletters , applications , and other digital products . Must demonstrate skill , expertise, and experience in frontend web development that aligns with University standards.

Proposes , refines , and executes distinctive , innovative , accessible , and responsive web development for desktop and mobile . Has key responsibilities for the development , refinement , and ongoing maintenance of U n iversity - wide digital components and templates , and demonstrates compliance with international web accessibility and browser / device usability standards. Is part of a team that collaborates with digital colleagues across the University to establish standards for web development that emphasize accessibility and usability . Uses research and data to advocate for consistent standards across the University ' s web and digital ecosystem . Supports efforts to standardize web development testing and comp li ance programs , including enterprise use of tools and technologies and training/education programs . JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prototyping and building r esponsive and accessible HTML and Word Press central , University-wide websites (based on a parent theme and custom designs) according to a brand system and guide lin es for accessibility , usability , web standards, and web governance . Maintaining and enhancing existing WordPress (and other) websites. Testing , diagnosing , and troubleshooting website issues. Collaborating with and taking feedback from designers , content strategists, project managers , and team l eaders to refine and execute prototypes for websites, newsletters, and other digital products.

Developing, refining , and maintaining University-wide digita l templat es and design system components for web (Wo r dPress and HTML), newsletters , and other digita l products (forms , self-service publishing platform, slide decks , presentations). Consistent updates and enhancements to the existing University Wordpress-based components l ibrary. This requires a strong understanding Wordpress, PHP-based coding, HTML/CSS , Advanced Custom Fi elds, and MySQL database relationships .

Utilizing an intake and ticketing system to respond and track requests to create and update University - wide websites according to sprint schedules and strategic priorities. Following schedules to ensure both internal and client - focused delive r ables are on time and according to specifications . With an extreme attent i o n to d e t ai l , q uali ty a ss urin g wo r k p r od u cts based o n spec ifi catio n s a n d i nst r uctions . + Bache l or's degree i n computer science or related field required + A minimum of two years of experience in web development or equivalent combination of education and exper i ence r equired


+ E xpertise bui l ding WordPress themes integrating Advanced Cus t om Fields and Gutenberg; HT MU CSS and P H P + E xper i ence with frontend frameworks (e.g. , F oundation) + Complete understanding of responsive and accessib l e website bui l ds for desktop a n d mobile + Version contro l via Git; experience deve l oping loca ll y and migrating websites + Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite ; partic u larly Photoshop and I llustrato r + Working knowledge of UX/U I prototyping too l s such as Sketch + Experience bui l ding news l etter templates for Mai l Chimp + E xperience with browser testing and user testi n g + Good communicat i on skills and keen eye fo r detai l s + Abi li ty to manage tasks a n d deadlines + Experience working i n cross-functional teams and taking di r ec t ion from senior team members; fami l iarity with Ag il e project management approaches preferred + Solid understanding of digital ecosystems and brand comm un ications for complex organizations r equired
